How do I participate in the contest?
Participating in the contest is easy. Log in to www.betterphotography.in/wva and sign in. If you have not registered before, create your account by registering yourself. Select the category in which you would like to submit your entry. Ensure that your upload to your preferred video-sharing platform is complete. You can then simply select the category in which you would like to submit your entry and paste the link of the uploaded video file.
When can I enter the competition?
You can start uploading your entries right away. The last date for submitting entries for the Panasonic LUMIX Better Photography Wedding Video Awards is September 23, 2019.
Does it cost anything to enter the competition?
Better Photography would like to ensure that there is an equal chance for everyone in India to participate and win. Participation in the contest is completely free!
How big should my videos be?
The minimum and maximum duration for entries for each category is specifically mentioned within the category names. Your video is strictly required to be of a resolution of minimum 720p at a ratio of 16:9
What file format should the videos be in?
Any format acceptable to your chosen video-sharing platform is acceptable in these awards. Please ensure that the format you choose is optimised for both video and audio.
Are vertical videos allowed? Your entries need to be in the horizontal format only.
What is pillarboxing? How do I avoid it? Pillarboxing or artificial black banding at the sides of your video is usually introduced automatically by video-sharing platforms if your video is not of the standard 16:9 format. To ensure it does not occur, using the 16:9 format is mandatory.
I don't currently read or subscribe to Better Photography magazine. Can I still enter? Yes, of course!
I'm an Indian citizen living and working abroad. Can I still participate? Yes. You may participate. However, the onus of travelling to India for the final felicitation ceremony rests with you. You will be required to submit appropriate identification documents in this regard.
I’m a foreign national living and working in India. Can I still participate? Yes, the contest is open to anyone residing in India. However, all nominees and winners will be asked to provide a valid proof of residence. Entrants must ensure that they are able to provide it whenever asked for by Better Photography.
My videos are not in English or Hindi, but in a regional or state language. Am I allowed to participate? Absolutely. Videos in any language are welcome. However, you will need to subtitle the videos appropriately to facilitate understanding for the judges and audience. The subtitles may be hardcoded or embedded, or they can be enabled via automatic captioning or subtitling if the video-sharing platform allows it.
Who cannot participate in the awards? Employees of Better Photography, Network 18, Panasonic, and partner brands and companies to the awards are not permitted to participate in the awards.
Can I enter in all the categories? Absolutely! You can participate in all categories.
Can I enter the same video into multiple categories? You can do that. However you need to ensure that your videos represent the various contest categories well.
Do videos have to be taken with a digital camera? Not necessarily. You can submit videos shot by any camera - basic or DSLR, or dedicated video cameras.
Can I send a CD containing my videos? No, we are not accepting entries in the form of a CD. You can only submit your entries online, as uploads.
I have a fantastic video, but I'm not sure it really fits a category. Should I still enter it? The categories of our contests are largely interpretative. As long as a video connects to a category in some way, you can submit your entries.
How much video editing do you allow? We recognise that digital videos need some amount of post-processing to look their best. Hence, we will accept editing, transitions, corrections, enhancements, graphics or any filters / tools used in video and audio editing. However, any entries that are deemed to be excessively manipulated, or unaesthetic because it is done poorly, may be disqualified. This will be based on the final decisions by the judging panel.
Do I retain the copyright of my videos? Absolutely! Every entrant will retain copyrights of his/her videos. However, Better Photography, Network 18, and partners to the Awards reserve the licence to use the videos in any way we deem necessary to promote and showcase the awards, across traditional or electronic media, in perpetuity. Appropriate credits will be provided.
Why do I need to be logged in to the site in order to submit a video? You need to log in before submitting the entries so that we can tag your entries with your profile. Your email id acts as a unique identifier for the contest.
How do I know that you've received my entry? Once you've sent your entry, you can cross view it in your "Submit Entries" page. If you can see it there, that means we have received it.
How will my video be judged? Better Photography will appoint a panel of judges to determine the winning videos. Among others, key parameters will include purpose, vision, composition, exposure, video and audio technical merit, message conveyed, and the overall appeal.
When I submit an video to the contest, what rights does Better Photography have regarding my submission? By entering your videos into the competition, entrants agree to allow Better Photography to publish or display their videos in print or electronic form in a future issue or issues of Better Photography, to use the videos for editorial and promotional purposes without payment.
The videos will be reproduced with due credit to the photographers. This essentially means that your videos may be exhibited, used for promoting BP WVA, or used for editorial and/or educational reasons. Your videos will not be sold or misrepresented.
Are release forms required when submitting a video to the contest? The entrant must be the creator of his/her video and must also own the copyrights and rights to reproduction of all videos entered into the contest. It is the legal responsibility of the entrant, and not Better Photography / Network18 Publishing, to ensure that the publication of the videos by Better Photography does not raise any legal claims.
I'd like to enter a video that has previously been uploaded. Is that allowed? Yes.
How old can my video be? There are no restrictions regarding when the video has been shot, just that it must be shot by the videographer / production house uploading the videos.
Will my entries be visible online to others? No. This website only allows you to upload links of the videos. While you will be able to view your own entries, visitors of this website or other entrants will not be able to view your entries.
Will I be notified if my video is chosen for the awards? Award nominees will be announced and showcased in one of the future issues of Better Photography. Keep following Better Photography’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on the same. You will also be notified by telephone and / or email. There is a possibility that you may be required to submit additional details like identification documents or original video files, before you are selected as a nominee or winner. In this case, please ensure that you respond immediately.
I accidentally uploaded the wrong video or caption. Can I delete my entry and submit a new video or caption? Even after a video has been uploaded, you can still edit the related information or even delete it. Options to do so are provided within the category entries.
I can't remember which videos I've already submitted. Can you tell me which of my videos you've received? Once you upload a video, your entry will be visible in your “Submit Entries” page. You can click on the relevant category and see your entries there.
