At photokina this  year, Voightlander released a 40mm f/2.8 Heliar M-mount lens, but with a curious twist. As it turns out, despite being designed for M-mount cameras, this lens cannot be used on them at all!

The whole premise is a bit confusing, but here it is: the lens is to be used in combination with the VM-E Close Focus Adapter to focus the lens. So, the 40mm is truly meant for full-frame E-mount cameras. Don’t even try using it with an M-mount camera, for it is not under warranty for any damage caused.

Here’s the other thing… the 40mm is priced at USD 100 (approx. Rs. 6100), but the adapter needed with the lens costs thrice as much, and the total package comes up to around USD 500 (approx. Rs. 30,500). It just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.
