Huawei Honor Holly 2 Plus: What’s the Plus Factor?
Huawei’s latest offering, the Honor Holly 2 Plus, enters the budget smartphone category. Supriya Joshi tests it out.
When the Huawei Honor Holly was released in 2014, it left a lot to be desired, in terms of both the camera features as well as the overall performance of the phone. However, the Holly 2 Plus is here to change the legacy of its predecessor. Here’s how the budget smartphone fares.
Of Features and Specs
Huawei did a major overhaul of the camera features on the Holly 2 Plus, and upgraded the 8MP rear camera to a 13MP f/2 one and also added LED flash to the mix. The frontfacing camera has also been upgraded from 2MP to 5MP.
The shooting features of the cameraphone are actually quite basic, which might just be a good thing, considering how many smartphones these days seem to just pack in the shooting modes, which can be quite confusing. One can adjust ISO and White Balance, as far as manual control goes.
The image quality, however, is a mixed bag. In bright light, the phone is able to capture good quality images, but this completely reverses in low light. Colour reproduction is also not the best, with most appearing dull and muted. Another let down is the video capabilities, as the phone can only shoot 720p video.
Too Much to Expect?
The phone is priced at Rs.8499, and you know exactly what you are paying for—a good budget phone, but a rather average shooter. In contrast, I had reviewed the Xiaomi Redmi 1S back in 2014… it was then priced at Rs. 5999 and was an excellent shooter too. With the stakes this high, perhaps it’s time for Huawei to step up their budget cameraphone game.
