Leica Updates S System with 4k Ready Camera

Leica S (Type 007)

The Leica S (Type 007) is the addition to Leica’s S-System. The camera has what the company calls a ‘full frame medium format sensor’, which is basically 30 x 45mm, and thus larger than regular full frame DSLRs. This 37.5MP camera reportedly has several improvements, which include improved image quality at higher sensitivities and a faster processer that manages 3.5fps shooting, and has 2GB buffer memory. The camera shoots Full HD video using the entire sensor in the Leica Pro Format, and 4k video using a Super 35 window mode.  The new focal plane shutter in the camera offers a further significantly increased service life of at least 150,000 cycles. It will be launched in 2015 for 18,720 pounds (approx. Rs. 18,52,000). Leica announced the Summicron-S 100mm f/2 ASPH lens for this system, and also released the Leica S-E (type 006) as a lower-priced entry-level model.
