Winners of Young: 15-17 | Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021
Here are the compelling pictures submitted in the Young: 15-17 category of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021:
Founded in 2011 by Caroline Kenyon and her team at The Food Awards Company, the contest celebrates the best in food photography and film today. There are 30 unique categories that cover a range of depictions of food in society. The entries are then judged by experts—photographers, magazine editors, creative directors, film directors, food retailers, and chefs. This year, the esteemed panel of jurors included David Loftus, the Chair of Judges, Nicola Galloway, Jussi Brofeldt, and Francis Hodgson, among others. The title winner receives a cash prize of 5000 GBP.
First Winner: Dewi Hollema, Egypt
Spill the Tea: Men gather round on the side of the street in old Alexandria, Egypt, to discuss local matters over a cup of black sweet tea and snacks. It is a neighbourhood custom where one pulls up their chair while they socialise, as they share the national drink. This tradition is important and has been passed down through the generations. The young boy, observing and listening to his elders while sitting on the bonnet, will one day also be part of that circle. And so the tradition lives on.
Second Winner: Natalia Vorontsova, Russia
Catch: I took this photo in a suburb of Kazan, Sviyazhsk, at the most common tourist fair when I noticed this stall where they had hung up dried fish for sale. When my mother saw this, she said it would be better to photograph prettier subjects such as landscapes. But there are already a million images of the landscapes, while only one image of this Kazan dried fish.
Third Winner: Charlize Oranje, the Netherlands
Bite Into: It is an image that shows the irresistible quality of the cupcake and my desire to capture its beauty. I wanted to recreate the emotion I felt as I bit into its deliciousness, leaving the viewer wondering if it was my lips that were as pink as the frosting or if it was the frosting that turned my lips pink.Tags: food, family, Food Photography, Russia, photography contest, winners, Contest, Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021, the Netherlands, young photographers, Natalia Vorontsova, Charlize Oranje, Dewi Hollema, Egypt, Young: 15-17
