Winners of World Food Programme Food for Life | Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021

Here are the powerful images submitted in the World Food Programme Food for Life category of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021:

Founded in 2011 by Caroline Kenyon and her team at The Food Awards Company, the contest celebrates the best in food photography and film today. There are 30 unique categories that cover a range of depictions of food in society. The entries are then judged by experts—photographers, magazine editors, creative directors, film directors, food retailers, and chefs. This year, the esteemed panel of jurors included David Loftus, the Chair of Judges, Nicola Galloway, Jussi Brofeldt, and Francis Hodgson, among others. The title winner receives a cash prize of 5000 GBP.

First Winner: Md Mahabub Hossain Khan, Bangladesh

Drinking from Garbage: I captured this image in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2016. The child was drinking a discarded bottle in the garbage dump. Her mother worked in the bottle recycling factory. When the little girl felt thirsty, she tried to search for water amongst the empty bottles. When I shot this image, I tried to emphasise the poor conditions in which most people live.

Second Winner: Mominul Islam Momin, Bangladesh

Struggling Farmer: This lady has been living a challenging life full of hurdles and grief since her husband passed away. Having two children, she alone manages to cultivate the land and plant the paddy. Poverty and hardship often beat her down, but she still loves her job. Here, I have portrayed the arduous tasks she undertakes to grow her crops.

Third Winner: K M Asad, Bangladesh

After Long Journey: Without any food or water after three days of continuous walking, an elderly Rohingya refugee woman had just entered in Lomba Bill Teknaf border from Myanmar Rakhine state at Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. According to the UNHCR, more than 7,45,000 Rohingya refugees have fled from Myanmar violence, and most of them have tried to cross the border and reach Bangladesh.
