Winners of Street Food | Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021

Here are the inspiring pictures submitted in the Street Food category of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021:

Founded in 2011 by Caroline Kenyon and her team at The Food Awards Company, the contest celebrates the best in food photography and film today. There are 30 unique categories that cover a range of depictions of food in society. The entries are then judged by experts—photographers, magazine editors, creative directors, film directors, food retailers, and chefs. This year, the esteemed panel of jurors included David Loftus, the Chair of Judges, Nicola Galloway, Jussi Brofeldt, and Francis Hodgson, among others. The title winner receives a cash prize of 5000 GBP.

First Winner: Viet Van Tran, Vietnam

Enjoying: I took this photograph towards the end of last year. Vietnam was one of the few countries to have achieved success in the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic. While drinking coffee, I saw these four schoolgirls in white dresses walking down the street. They had stopped to buy sweet soup. The way began to enjoy the soup made me realise that life is lovely, even though we are all living in a pandemic. It was an unforgettable memory during my vacation in Hoi An.

Second Winner: Duncan de Fey, the Netherlands

Snack Bar: It was a small snack bar in the streets of Istanbul, which was about to open. I quite liked the geometric shapes and the play of light. It felt like the lines of the steps were converging at the centre of the shop. The muted tones of the image enable viewers to focus on the snack bar.

Third Winner: Lawrence Worcester, United Kingdom

Railway Offers: I had departed before dawn from the border town of Lashio. It was a two-day journey that descended from the mountains to stop in Mandalay before arriving in Yangon. My best photography opportunities were in the middle of the action with the vendors and customers. Everyone was too busy transacting to be concerned about posing for a stranger.
