Winners of Bring Home the Harvest | Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021
Here are the moving images submitted in the Bring Home the Harvest category of the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021:
Founded in 2011 by Caroline Kenyon and her team at The Food Awards Company, the contest celebrates the best in food photography and film today. There are 30 unique categories that cover a range of depictions of food in society. The entries are then judged by experts—photographers, magazine editors, creative directors, film directors, food retailers, and chefs. This year, the esteemed panel of jurors included David Loftus, the Chair of Judges, Nicola Galloway, Jussi Brofeldt, and Francis Hodgson, among others. The title winner receives a cash prize of 5000 GBP.
First Winner: F.Dilek Uyar, Turkey
Drying Okra: It is a photograph of drying okra flowers in Tokat, Turkey. People start to plant okra in April, while the harvesting takes place at the beginning of June. Collecting okra from the field is not easy. Three people can only pick 1.5 kilos in a day. They arrange them on a rope with their flowers. A week later, the flowers are dried and cleaned by producers for selling. Okra is added in Turkish kitchens for soups or cuisines. When I was walking in the village after photographing okra in the field, I notice this woman picking the okra flowers. Here, the dried ones and the ones with flowers are together. Also, her mother-in-law was sitting in the background. So, I decided to capture this typical day in an Anatolian household.
Second Winner: Yiping Wan, China
Harvest Season: I captured this image during the harvest season in China. I liked how the bright yellow corn and the pink dresses of the women stood out at the centre, against the gloomy settings of the houses. That’s the first thing that one notices, how these women are inspecting corns. The light, fortunately, was soft that renders a pleasing atmosphere.
Third Winner: Dorte Verner, United States of America
Wonder Children: A Yemeni child was bringing back fish that he caught to the refugee camp. These children are forcibly displaced and caught in the middle of the global refugee crisis. They have lost friends and family members, their homes, and often, their childhood. Despite these losses, they continue to demonstrate resilience. Refugee children find ways to play with what is available in their camps or settlements. Even the, they continue to aspire for a better future, a very uncertain future. Access to nutritious foods is limited. Drinking water is often scarce. Education and health care are limited, but these kids find ways to learn and survive.Tags: food, family, Food Photography, China, Turkey, photography contest, winners, Contest, Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021, Food for the family, Dorte Verner, United States of America, F.Dilek Uyar, Yiping Wan, Bring Home the Harvest
