Winners of the Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year–Overall | Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2021

Founded in 2011 by Caroline Kenyon and her team at The Food Awards Company, the contest celebrates the best in food photography and film today. There are 30 unique categories that cover a range of depictions of food in society. The entries are then judged by experts—photographers, magazine editors, creative directors, film directors, food retailers, and chefs. This year, the esteemed panel of jurors included David Loftus, the Chair of Judges, Nicola Galloway, Jussi Brofeldt, and Francis Hodgson, among others. The title winner receives a cash prize of 5000 GBP.

A Grape View: One of the most exciting days for a winemaker is the first day of harvest when they taste the freshly squeezed juice. I captured this image in Chateau des Ganfards, Saussignac, Bergerac, France, where I work as a winemaker and viticulturist since 2018. The summer of 2020 was hot and dry, and the grapes were fantastic. On the 26th of August, we harvested the first grapes for our white wines. It was a chilly morning. At 7 am, I prepared the press to receive the fruit. Then, I went down to the vineyards to look at the collection and to make some photographs. The sun was rising at the time I arrived. The sky was pink, and the harvesting machine was coming to unload the grapes. So, I jumped on the back of the trailer, and I prepared my camera. I was lucky enough a ray of the sun was illuminating the spot where the grapes were gracefully falling into the trailer, along with Jean Claude Géraud driving the tractor in the backdrop.

This image is also the first winner in the Errazuriz Wine Photographer of the Year–Produce category.
