My Best Shot: Indranil Mukherjee

Why it is my best shot
There are a few photos that are etched in my mind as I move on with my photographic journey. This is one of them.
Where and when I shot this image
I made this photo in Mumbai on 16 June 2012, when President Pranab Mukherjee, who was then a frontrunner for the post, while being the country’s Finance Minister, arrived to speak at a national seminar.
How I achieved it
Let me be very honest… I was extremely lucky with this shot. In order to photograph Pranab Mukherjee’s arrival, I had been waiting by the entrance of the venue along with my colleagues. When he made an entry, I began taking pictures using a flashgun. For this particular image, I released the shutter while the flash was still recycling for the next burst. As a result, my flash fired a little bit after a fellow photographer’s flash. This caused a dramatic double exposure on a single frame.
The gear I used to get the shot
I used a Nikon D3 with a Nikkor AF-S 24–70mm f/2.8 G ED lens and a Nikon SB-900 flashgun. I had set the exposure to 1/10sec at f/7.1, ISO 400.
