Viren Desai Launches Crowdfunding Project for His Coffee Table Book
Viren Desai, a Mumbai-based fine art and advertising photographer, has initiated a crowdfunding project to publish his coffee table book.
Titled The Grand Maestros of Indian Classical Music, it chronicles over three decades of photographs capturing Indian musical geniuses. Having been captivated by Indian Music and its maestros, this keen interest and observance translated onto his photographs giving them a narrative like quality. The book includes some of his most iconic photos of musical ustads like Allarakha Qureshi, Zakir Hussain and M S Subbulakshmi, amongst others.
The book spans over 288 pages and is divided into 22 chapters, each dedicated to a single artist and their inspiring words, quotes and stories. Most of the 158 colour photographs and 130 black and white photographs have been shot exclusively for the book or are a part of his life long endeavor to document Indian classical music and its docents. Priced at Rs. 6500, Viren has decided to self-publish the book as he aspires to print it in a 12 x12-inch size, a size which no publisher would grant for a photo book.
You can contribute anything from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1 lakh to help fund the book. If the project doesn’t meet its requirement, any money contributed by you will be returned.
