Technical Image Press Association Unveils the Winners of the TIPA World Awards 2022

The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has announced the winners of the 2022 TIPA World Awards at the end of April. Along with exciting cameras and lenses that cover a wide range of categories, from expert to professional, the 40 TIPA World Award winners represent the wide range of products and services that make up the imaging industry today, including cameras, lenses, inkjet papers and printers, imaging software, video, lighting, monitors, cameraphones, and more.

The voting took place on April 29, 2022, held this year at Leitz Park in Wetzlar, Germany. The jury comprised editors from professional, amateur, and business publications, both print and online, from Asia, Australia, Europe and North and South America, along with a delegate from the Camera Journal Press Club. Better Photography, the only Indian member of TIPA, was represented by Shridhar Kunte, Deputy Editor—Technical.

Along with the awards, the TIPA association has also announced two new Vice Chairmen following Giulio Forti’s retirement—Shridhar Kunte and George Schaub. Forti has instead been elected as Honorable President for Life.

Speaking about the awards, Thomas Gerwers, Chairman of TIPA said, “Each year we have more and more products and new and exciting technology that continue to fuel growth in our industry. Established in 1991, the TIPA general assembly continues to meet every year to discuss projects, share opinions, and comment on industry innovations and trends. The award process begins after the main trade show season, and the nominations are assembled by the Technical Committee of TIPA. Each piece of equipment is analysed and assessed before adding it to the list of nominees. During the meeting, editors choose the products of the year through a voting process.

TIPA World Award honorees this year include long-time industry companies as well as new entrants who represent emerging trends in the photo/imaging industry. While the pandemic and supply chain issues naturally had an adverse effect on sales this past year, many companies brought forth new and exciting products in the camera, lens, software, monitor, video, lighting, smartphone and printer/paper categories. Of special note in this year’s TIPA World Awards are three new cameraphone categories, indicating the growing influence of this mode of imaging on all levels of the marketplace.

The live and simulcast 2022 TIPA World Awards Ceremony will take place during Photopia in Hamburg, Germany from 13 to 16 October.
