Tamron announced the development of the SP 70–200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD. It is a full-size, high-speed telephoto zoom lens equipped with VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation, and USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive). The lens is designed for full frame as well as APS-C sensors, and is billed as the smallest in its class. It features moisture-resistant construction, and a circular aperture diaphragm for pleasing out-of-focus backgrounds. From the looks of it, the lens seems like a good alternative to the more expensive proprietary lenses.

The SP 70–200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD will be available in Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts. The lens is expected to ship by the end of 2012. Pricing information will be announced at a later date.
