Sony Xperia Z2 Announced in India at Rs. 49,990
The Sony Xperia Z2 may well be the best-specced cellphone at the moment, but with an Indian pricing of Rs. 49,990, it is definitely priced competitively. The phone’s biggest competitors are the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Rs. 51,000), the HTC One M8 (Rs. 49,000) and of course, the Apple iPhone 5S (Rs.47,500 for the 16GB version). The price also includes a free Smartband which the company will include along with the phone (which is otherwise priced at Rs. 5990) The Z2 was officially launched in India a few hours ago, in Delhi.
Why is the Z2 so exciting for a cameraphone enthusiast? Besides being waterproof, the Z2 has a sensor size of 1/2.3 inch. Basically, it is one of the very few cameraphones that have a sensor as big as one found in compact cameras. All the aforementioned competitors have a relatively smaller sensor. Not just the sensor size, but the 20.7MP resolution, a 27mm f/2 lens and the compact camera-like interface that we saw in the Xperia Z1 will also be seen here. We are curious to see if there is any visible image quality differences between the Z1 and Z2.
Where the difference will be easily apparent will be video. Like the Galaxy S5, the Z2 can shoot 4k video, courtesy its Snapdragon 801 processor. The old Z1 could only do Full HD. The Xperia Z2 has other exciting video features, such as 120fps slow-motion video at 720p HD and SteadyShot technology that is supposed to make handheld video and panning smooth.
