Sony to get a New Tough E-mount
Sony’s NEX and Alpha lineup are extremely capable cameras especially given their compact and lightweight nature. As a result, however, Sony cameras tend to be front heavy and users have noticed that longer pro lenses are prone to wiggling when attached to the E and FE-mount cameras. Fotodiox seems to have come up with a fix for this with what they call the Tough E-mount.
Sony’s original lens mount is a two-part construction where the component that holds the lens is made of plastic (Except the Sony Alpha 7S that has a metal mount). Fotodiox aims to fix this by replacing the original mount with an all-metal one, made of chromed brass. All you need is a Phillips-head screw driver and about five minutes. That said, whether this affects the weathersealing of certain cameras is yet to be seen and changing the mount will probably mean that you void the warranty as well.
Here’s a video to show you how it’s done.
