The A7R has a 36MP sensor with no optical low-pass filter and features contrast-detect autofocus, while the A7 has a 24MP sensor with low-pass filter and a hybrid AF system. Both cameras sport XGA electronic viewfinders, tilting LCDs and WiFi.

Coupled with the new BIONZ X processor, the full-frame sensors of both cameras allow them to shoot  Full HD video (50p/25p).  The Clear Image Zoom has been enhanced for video recording. The video recording features also include an audio recording level control and display.

Both cameras feature a Fast Intelligent AF system. The Alpha 7 supplements this with Fast Hybrid AF that combines Fast Intelligent AF with phase detection autofocus. The Alpha 7 features continuous shooting up to 5 frames per second. Both new camera models are fully customisable with nine customisable buttons and 46 assignable functions.

The new ‘Multiple Exposure’ mode automatically composites sequential exposures, to create effects with a choice of pre-set artistic themes as well as manual blending modes.

Pre-installed in both camera models, ‘Smart Remote Control’ controls exposure and shutter release from your smartphone. The app also sends photos automatically to your mobile device for on-the-spot sharing.
