Sony BP WPOY 2019-20: Top 10 Category Nominees
A glimpse of the top nominated photographs in India’s biggest wedding photography contest, the Sony Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year 2019-20 Awards.
The ninth edition of the Sony Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year 2019-20 Awards received an astounding number of entries from across India. The contest was open for submissions from 15 November–10 February. The entries were made online, via the Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year Awards website to seven categories—Bride & Groom Portraiture, Family & Friends, Emotions, Behind the Scenes or Offbeat, Finer Wedding Details or Still Life, Photoseries on a Single Wedding and The Joy of Light by Photoquip.
Every year, the submissions are open to a diverse panel of national and international jurists comprising of not just professional photographers but photo editors as well. Since wedding photography borrows from various genres, it only makes sense to have a judging panel with photographers belonging to different photographic genres and levels of expertise. This year, the contest had 63 panelists who lent their knowledge in selecting the top 10 nominees in each of the categories. Once the judging was concluded, we noticed that quite a few photographers were nominated across categories, and who also bagged more than one nomination in a single category.
These top 10 nominees will go on to the next round of judging called the Portfolio Submission round, a stage that the BP team initiated last year to ensure that only the very best make it to the final phase of the contest called the face-off round.
The Sony Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year 2019-20 Awards will conclude in a grand ceremony on 21 March, in Mumbai. The main title winner as well as the category prize winners can look forward to a bunch of exciting prizes that include the Sony Alpha 7R III along with the FE 24–105mm f/4 G OSS lens, the SW270C and the SW240 monitors by BenQ, the Problitz DC 400 with TTL Transmitter and the KLIK Speedflash FL60-TTL by Photoquip, and the Lacie USB 3.0 1TB drive.
