Sony BP WPOY 2018-19: Top 10 in The Joy of Light by Photoquip
A look at the top nominated photographs in The Joy of Light by Photoquip category of the Sony Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year 2018-19 Awards.
As has been the tradition for the last several editions of the Wedding Photographer of the Year Awards, the entries were open to a diverse judging panel comprising 56 national and international jurists. We had professional photographers from various genres, national photo editors, as well as newly married couples. Since wedding photography is composed of skills borrowed from a variety of genres, a diverse judging panel has been an effective way to bring forth the very best photographers from the wedding community. These 56 jurists were responsible for the top ten nominees in each of the seven categories—Bride & Groom Portraiture, Family & Friends, Emotions, Behind the Scenes or Offbeat, Finer Wedding Detail or Still Life, Photoseries on a Single Wedding and The Joy of Light by Photoquip. A few photographers have been nominated twice in a single category, and have also received multiple nominations across the seven categories.
This year, Better Photography added an additional stage of judging called the Portfolio Submission round. All the top 10 nominees in the first six categories of the contest (excluding The Joy of Light by Photoquip) were asked to make a submission comprising two portfolios—one photoessay (6-12 photographs), and one portfolio with 12 of their best wedding images. Our idea and endeavour with this additional round of judging was to ensure that only the best all-round contenders make it as winners of the top six categories of the contest. We invited Swapan Parekh, multi-disciplinary photographer; V V Ramana, CEO of Villart Photography; Fawzan Husain, photographer and educator; Shantanu Sheorey, Dean of One School Goa; and Vivek Victor Sequeira, wedding photographer to judge the portfolio submissions. thereby revealing the category winners. These six winners will then move on to the final face off round. We will be revealing more on this, shortly.
In the meantime, here’s a look at our top nominees in The Joy of Light by Photoquip category. Congratulations to all of you!
