Quote of the week by Susan Meiselas

“Finding a photograph is often like picking up a piece from a jigsaw-puzzle box with the cover missing. There’s no sense of the whole. Each image is a mysterious part of something not yet revealed.” —Susan Meiselas (1948)

Born in Baltimore, Susan Meiselas is best known for her coverage of the insurrection in Nicaragua and her extensive documentation of human rights issues in Latin America. Her first major photographic essay, Carnival Strippers, focused on the lives of women doing striptease at New England country fairs. Meiselas joined Magnum Photos in 1976, and has worked as a freelance photographer since then. She has also received multiple awards including the Robert Capa Gold Medal, the Leica Award for Excellence, and the Hasselblad Foundation Photography prize.
