Quote of the Week by Irving Penn

“I can get obsessed by anything if I look at it long enough. That’s the curse of being a photographer.” —Irving Penn (1917–2009)

Irving Penn was a renowned American photographer, known best for his portraits and sophisticated fashion images. He began designing covers for Vogue at the age of 26, and soon established himself as a fashion photographer. He created a memorable series of portraits during the early 1950s called Small Trades, which featured labourers from London, New York, and Paris. Moments Preserved (1960), Worlds in a Small Room (1974) and Passage (1991) are some of his famous photobooks. In 1996, he donated his archives to The Art Institute of Chicago.
