Quote of the Day by Dorothea Lange

“To know ahead of time what you’re looking for means you’re then only photographing your own preconceptions, which is very limiting, and often false.” —Dorothea Lange (1895–1965)

Dorothea Lange was an American documentary photographer and a photojournalist, renowned for the photographs she shot of the Great Depression. Of this, her most famous image was that of the Migrant Mother. Before starting her career, she studied photography under Clarence White at Columbia University. She shot extensively for the Farm Security Administration in the United States, plus several assignments for LIFE magazine.
