Magnum Photos Adds Six New Photographers

Magnum Photos has added total six new members, including TIME’s Instagram Photographer of 2014, Matt Black. The 68-year-old agency generally adds one or two new members each year, so the addition of six nominees is the new record.

Carolyn Drake, Lorenzo Meloni, Richard Mosse, Max Pinckers and Newsha Tavakolian are the other newly added members to Magnum Photos. “I am honoured and humbled,” Black told TIME. “It gives your work a bigger voice and I hope to put it to good use.”

All the six nominees have to resubmit their work in two years to become an associate member of Magnum Photos. In addition, the new members will have to achieve 66% majority votes, and if successful, they can apply for the full membership in 2019.

“The decision to add six nominees is an indication of the great faith we have in our future and our desire to find the best new talent that can contribute to the future of Magnum,” the agency’s President Martin Parr told TIME.

“Magnum’s core business over the years has been to license its photographs to the professional marketplace, and that is what the revamp of the website is supposed to improve and enhance,” Magnum’s CEO David Kogan told TIME last month.
