Hate Instagram’s Explore Tab? That’s About to Change

Instagram’s Explore tab aims to be more personalised.

Remember hitting the Explore tab in Instagram? Yeah, us neither. Well, that’s about to change because the Facebook-owned app now aims to make the Explore tab less of a redundancy and more of a useful button to track relevant photographs.

Instead of a random selfie, sunset or landscape photo, you will now see media based on your likes and the likes of the people you follow.

Basically, this means, if you like street photography or are into stylised food photos, then you are more likely to see unique content based on similar themes in the Explore tab, instead of random stuff that will make you go, “Why am I seeing this?”

A Facebook spokesperson acknowledged the change and explained that personalised content will actually be mixed in with trending content. “We’re always looking to update the types of posts you see in Explore to better tailor it to you. We’ll show you a variety of photos and videos that people you follow have liked, as well as content that is trending in the Instagram community.”

So, while the Explore tab’s content won’t entirely be tailored for you, it’s a start.
