Fujifilm Announce World’s First 5-stop Image Stabilisation Lens!

Japanese camera makers Fujifilm have announced the specifications of the XF 18–135mm high magnification zoom lens, a weather-sealed lens designed to be an effective match on the similarly weather-sealed X-T1. Fujifilm claims that this lens has the most advanced 5-stop image stabilisation system in the world. Most older cameras/lenses offer 3-stop stabilisation, while relatively newer technologies manage four stops.

The XF 18–135mm is dust-proof as well as waterproof. To make it weatherproof, Fujifilm have applied sealing at 20 different areas on the lens to ensure that no dust or water affects it. A ventilator has been added inside the base of the lens barrel to prevent dust and moisture from entering the lens and facilitates smooth operation.

The lens may cover a consumer zoom range, but its XF (and not XC) moniker implies that the company is intending this to be a serious optic. The optical construction includes four aspherical lenses and 2 Extra-low Dispersion elements. The lens is also lighter than one would expect of one that covers this focal range. It weighs 490g.

The lens will be available next month, and comes with a price tag of  USD 899.95 (approx. INR 54,322). The Indian pricing has not been announced as of now.
