Disney to Become a Major Stakeholder in Nat Geo

Earlier in December, it was announced that Disney was expected to buy 21st Century Fox for USD 52.4 billion. This would mean that Disney would eventually become the majority stakeholder in National Geographic.

If the deal goes through as planned, Disney will take over the 73% controlling shares that Fox purchased in September 2015. At the time, National Geographic had been bought by the entertainment mammoth for USD 725 million, following which their workforce was slashed by 9%. It remains to be seen how the new acquisition will impact National Geographic’s fate.
