Canon Wins Three Categories of the TIPA World Awards 2021
Last month, on 20 May in Spain, the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) unveiled the winners of the prestigious awards on 20 May in Madrid, Spain. The TIPA World Awards are presented to the best photo and imaging products launched in the previous year.
Founded in 1991, TIPA is composed of numerous member publications in the imaging field, both print and online. The editors of the magazines create a global panel of experts. They have a reputation for an honest and trustworthy appraisal of the products. Each member publication is engaged in the selection and final vote in the awards process.
Each year, TIPA members come together with the TIPA Board at the General Assembly to choose the winners through a voting process. This year, on account of COVID-19 and travel restrictions, the board decided to set up an online voting procedure for members from around the world on 30 April 2021. The associations selected the best 40 products from numerous nominees. The panel of 26 jurors from Asia, Australia, Europe and North and South America, along with a delegate from the Camera Journal Press Club. Better Photography is the only South Asian member of TIPA.
“We believe that now more than ever our support of the industry and the people who work so hard, be it in production, distribution, or marketing, deserve our thanks and appreciation for their efforts to continue to develop new and exciting products that both expand imaging creativity and potential and point the way to new technologies in the future,” said Thomas Gerwers, Chairman of TIPA.
Here is a look at the three categories that Canon has won:

2. Best Prime Telephoto Lens: Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM
For any enthusiast photographer, the prospect of working with super long-range telephoto lenses is exciting, although the price tag can often be prohibitive. Canon’s RF 600mm is a highly affordable, very long-range prime telephoto lens that is both compact and lightweight. The fixed f/11 aperture is developed as part of the ground-breaking EOS R system. With this thought-provoking optical design, Canon has redefined our perception of aperture and how it relates to performance. The lens has a tripod mount inset on the barrel, a retractable design, and its 5-stops optical image stabilisation can certainly come in handy. AF is quick and smooth for both still and video recording, thanks to the inclusion of an STM (stepping motor drive). A unique lens built using gapless dual-layer diffractive optics, resulting in a lighter lens and makes for much easier handling and operation.
3. Best Photo Printer: Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300
While sharing images online is fine, there’s nothing like a quality print to show the true impact of a well-done photograph. The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300, a 13-inch, 10-ink (LUCIA PRO, including Chroma Optimiser) pigment inkjet printer, makes it easy for photographers and other graphic artists to discover the benefits of printing as both a creative outlet and archive of their vision. It is a great benefit for those who may print infrequently is Canon’s Nozzle Recovery System, which cuts down on the need for frequent head cleaning.
