Quote of the Day by Dorothea Lange

“While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.” —Dorothea Lange (1895–1965)

Dorothea Lange was an American documentary photographer and a photojournalist, renowned for the photographs she shot of the Great Depression. Of this, her most famous image was that of the Migrant Mother. Before starting her career, she studied photography under Clarence White at Columbia University. She shot extensively for the Farm Security Administration in the United States, plus several assignments for LIFE magazine.
