I know that photoshop is the industry standard for photo editing, but it seems to have a significant learning curve. Are there any other programs that someone would recommend that are more on a beginner level?
Thanks

GIMP is there for your need...
It is the free softy...
Also, if U are working on RAW files, lightroom will be good for u...
If not lightroom, Photoshop Elements will be good too... |

I second Ashvarybabul. I have been using Gimp for about 6 years! It's a great tool and free too.
You can automate many things in that using Gimp-scripts (script-fu)

You can use Adobe Fireworks CS5it is also a good one.It quickly creates screen graphics, interactive comps, and web application prototypes without writing codes.
