I would request to all the members to come out with the various ways of converting a colored photo into black and white...

As said, the final result of b/w photo much depend upon the process obtained for conversion in photoshop..

Thus, it will be great t o know what different process people obtains for creating a b/w photo..

Good topic started, Ashvary! Here I go with different processes that can be used in PS to create a B&W image from a colored one.

1. Grayscale - Image --> Mode --> Grayscale

2. Desaturate - Image --> Adjustments --> Desaturate

But I don't use any of the above as you don't have the control on the tones with any of them.

3. Channel Mixer - Image --> Adjustments --> Channel Mixer
Here you've complete control on each tone that you want in your image. Select 'Monochrome' check box and then play with Red, Green & Blue as you wish. This is actually the same method which was used in films and very effective.

If anyone knows anything apart from these 3, please share. Any other thoughts are welcome!

I just found one more way there by using Gradient Map

Image>Adjustment>Gradient map..

Among the other preset it also has has a black and white option..

Has option to customize the brightness...etc..

Let me know if U guyz know is this option good or not.
