Aperture Lock

My camera is giving me an error message that says ‘Lock lens aperture at minimum aperture (largest f/number)’. I use a Nikon D3100 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. Please help!

Some old Nikkor lenses that are still sold have an aperture ring. This ring is used to set the aperture when using the lens on an manual SLR. However, when such lenses are used on modern cameras like more recent film cameras and DSLRs, the aperture is set through the camera. This is why the ring needs to be locked to f/22 all the time. You might have inadvertently removed the lock and shifted the ring’s position. All you need to do to solve the problem is to lock it back.
