Developing My Own Style

I was wondering whether I should focus on developing my own style or emulate the style of already established photographers? I am a beginner.

Remember the quote, ‘Nothing under the sun is new’? Every style is inspired by someone or something or even a completely different art form. Take inspiration from as many photographers and artists as you can. Over time your own experiences will influence the subjects and the way you shoot. However, try not to replicate their photographs or their style. Allow your own identity, and your own vision to blossom.

While you are learning from the masters of the past, it is equally important to keep up to date with contemporary photographers of the present day. Truly inspiring styles are not just unique, but also a representation of the mood and experiences of their time.
