Ansel Adams Wanted to be a Pianist
This story was originally published in May 2014.
When Ansel Adams was 23 years old, he decided that he wanted to become a concert pianist. He was immensely impressed by several of his friends’ musical talents and made up his mind to play the piano as well. Amazingly, he would practise photography and offer piano lessons as well, to generate some more income. However, a chance meeting with the great American modernist photographer Paul Strand, led him to change his mind towards photography. “My understanding of photography was crystallised that afternoon, as I realised the great potential of the medium as an expressive art,” Adams is known to have said.Tags: ansel adams, did you know, music, November 2010, pianist
