Soviet Russia used to be the world’s largest manufacturers of cameras. In fact, it was also the first manufacturer of a 35mm SLR. GOMZ became the first camera brand to manufacture 35mm SLRs in 1932. The first camera to be released in this brand was ‘sport’, which was released in 1935, a year before Germany released the Exakta camera. The lens mount is similar to the Zeiss Ikon Contax. In 1965, GOMZ changed its name to LOMO, a brand which now has its own cult status.
