HP Indigo has been showcasing their Indigo Digital presses at photokina this year. Another digital press that has been taking all the attention are the three new B2 format (wider format) presses for commercial and packaging markets. These presses come with an increased print width of 750 millimeters (mm)/29.5 inches and allow print service providers (PSPs) to take make use of applications that were not previously catered by digital.

The new HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press which is the first B2 format sheet-fed HP press in the market has been grabbing the attention of many at photokina 2012. This digital press is capable of producing almost all kinds of commercial print jobs and can cater to provide for a much larger range of packaging applications.

HP also demonstrated the sample output from the HP Indigo 10000 Digital Press. The B2 size format press (740 x 530 millimeters [mm] / 29.5 x 20.9 inches) has the ability to produce oversize photo applications such as photo books, book covers, calendars, and posters, and efficient production of standard-size photo products. As an example, visitors took a look at the world’s largest lay-flat photo book, which measures one meter (39.37 inches) wide when opened. The hardcover, leather-bound book, which was designed by MediaClip was printed on the HP Indigo 10000 and finished by Loxley Colour.

HP Indigo 20000 and 30000: The new wide-format packaging digital presses

HP also is extending the new wider-format digital press in the printing market, allowing PSPs to apply digital printing’s time-to-market, supply chain, inventory and product marketing advantages to the sizes and materials common in packaging production.

The web-fed HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press is a roll-to-roll digital press built for packaging. The width and repeat length of the press is ideal for most flexible packaging format sizes. With up to seven-color printing, including white ink, the Indigo 20000 can provide an output with a range color and quality requirements.
On the othe hand, the HP Indigo 30000 Digital Press is sheet-fed and brings the digital format size  compatible with existing offset printing presses and post-press equipment used for mainstream folding carton applications.  Indigo 30000 features seven-color printing on carton stocks up to 600 microns thick. Moreover, the digital press can run up to 4,600 sheets per hour in EPM and 3,450 sheets per hour in regular four-color process printing.

At photokina 2012, HP is also highlighting the new digital portfolio running real-world applications which include label and packaging, publishing, direct mail and sign and display.
