Glimpses of Childhood Reveries

12 children from the Salaam Baalak Trust, a Mumbai-based NGO that takes care of homeless children, were given the rare opportunity of being trained in photography earlier this year. The workshop, which took place in January, was organized by Iyanah Bativala with the assistance of Ayesha Broacha and Sudharak Olwe. Bativala is the daughter of renowned photographer Sooni Taraporevala.

The initial stages of the project were funded by the Tata Group, which furnished equipment. The children were trained for two hours a week at Bal Bhavan, Chowpatty, where they were taught various aspects of photography with point-and-shoot cameras. 85 of the photographs subsequently shot by these children are now up for exhibition at the Goethe Institut in Mumbai.  The exhibition will take place on 1 October during 5-8pm.
