Cellphone Photos – Nature: Winner & Honourable Mentions!
Better Photography’s readers were challenged to capture the raw beauty of the environment around them using only their cellphones, for last month’s theme on ‘Nature’. From insects and animals to majestic mountains and abandoned leaves, here is a look at some of the best images.

A Flock of Three

What made me shoot this: The geese, along with the background and light came together for me.
What I learnt: Birds are constantly moving, but if one is patient, the perfect composition is possible.

The Perfect Camouflage

What made me shoot this: I liked how almost all the shades in the spider’s body closely match the bark of the Eucalyptus tree.
What I learnt: I had to make sure that the interesting patterns in the spider were clearly visible. To do this, I had to increase the contrast of the image.

Might of the Mountain

What made me shoot this: You can really see the difference in the landscape, in this image. The rocky snowy peaks in the background and green foreground are tied together by the falling snow.
What I learnt: Nature is constantly changing, each time I go out I see a different view of the same scene. No two days are the same.

What made me shoot this: I saw the contrast between the horses grazing in the foreground and the glimpse of the concrete jungle in the
What I learnt: To get the skyline and both the horses in frame that I had in mind, I had to get down really low in the grass. Changing the angle can change the entire composition of the image.
