Lexar on the Growing Storage Needs of Consumers
CEIF sets the trend for the entire year for the photographic industry and lets everyone know the way forward for the year for changing technology. We expect CEIF to give customers a glimpse into the upcoming trends in photography for 2016.
We have seen a paradigm shift in consumer storage preference and an appetite for more storage is continuously evolving due to technology in mobile phones and in camera industry. For consumers, the demand for 4GB storage is virtually dead, and 8GB memory cards are being replaced by 16GB ones. Consumers’ demand for faster speed rated cards are going up substantially and the year 2016 will witness a more educated consumer with regards to the flash storage specific to one’s needs.
But with successes also come challenges, and we at Lexar ensure that we overcome them all. Firstly, the Indian Government has imposed anti-dumping duty on USB drives shipping from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, due to which the overall USB business got impacted for many companies.
India has always been a price sensitive market due to which sellers woo customers with cheaper price products, whereas in countries like USA and UK, it is the quality that is being marketed. This does prompt many consumers to buy slower speed storage products more as compared to higher speed and better quality products. We at Lexar are never involved in the rat race and we have always focused on quality and better experience and it is our endeavor to follow same by focusing on key platforms for our products.
Finally, e-commerce retail has emerged as a big opportunity as well as a threat for the Indian environment for storage, as many e-commerce players offer storage solutions at prices discounted below cost, which is good for end customer but at same time a threat to offline retail market.
We have ensured that our products are maintained at MOP by e-commerce companies so that our loyal base of retailers do not suffer.
