At CEIF 2016, Canon will showcase a varied range of cameras—DSLR range, Cinema EOS range and Pro DV range designed for video camera professionals. Other major highlights will be our XC10 4k Professional Video Camera, the EOS C300 Mark II—the second generation Cinema EOS 4K camera and the EOS C100 Mark II—an ideal product loaded with powerful features and enhanced ergonomics. We will also be showcasing the world’s highest resolution full frame DSLR at our stall, and our new range of G series printers and photo albums from DreamLabo.

DreamLabo 5000 has ignited the photo printing industry by providing a high quality alternative to the traditional silver halide technology. Incorporating Canon’s FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology, the print head enables the printing of high-quality photos and detailed text to support a variety of high-value-added output, from premium photo albums, photobooks, photo calendars, photo collages and other merchandise to high-quality POD items, such as bespoke brochures.

As a leader in digital imaging, Canon India’s participation in the four-day long trade event is an excellent platform to kick-start the new year. Multinational technology brands, like ours, look forward to exhibiting latest developments/gadgets in the field of image communication. This major annual event under the aegis of All India Photographic Trade and Industry Association (AIPTIA) will give us an opportunity to reach out to businesses and consumers at the expo.

We have committedly addressed the needs and expectations of our customers over the years by improvisations and/or introductions of new products in the field of image communication industry. In 2013, the Double Zoom kit with the EOS 600D was readily accepted by consumers as a second kit lens for selected DSLR bodies. We further integrated into 2014 with the launch of the EOS 1200D and the EOS 700D. These products created a buzz not just in terms of its features but also marketing initiatives taken around them.

In 2015, we launched the world’s highest resolution full frame DSLR cameras—the EOS 5DS and the EOS 5DSR, with a sensor resolution of 50.6 Megapixels. The launch of these cameras created much anticipation in the market even before the official announcement was made. These noteworthy DSLR cameras continue to stay in the limelight till date, across all genres. There has been a rapid shift towards 4k and Full HD technology as well.

Coming to the challenges we face in the Indian market… Today, compact cameras do not enjoy the same position they commanded in 2011, and DSLR cameras continue to be our mainstay. But the decline in compact cameras has more than compensated for by growth in popularity of DSLR cameras. This is due to our determined and robust efforts that have always kept us ahead of the curve. Our second challenge was expanding the user base of our entry-level DSLR cameras while strategising to target increase in the demand for high-end DSLR cameras. Our effort was to cash in on more and more people looking at top-of-the-line cameras, as well as professionals who demand the best. Simultaneously, we also focused on people looking to upgrade to a DSLR from a compact camera or smartphone. This strategy paid off, and we have broken all previous records on high-end DSLR unit sales. This approach has allowed us to enjoy good success in the market. Our third challenge was encouraging customers to print out their photographs. Currently, the photo printing culture in India is not in a good place So far, most of the printing only takes place during weddings. Nevertheless, we want to extend it beyond weddings.
