Canon PhotoMarathon India 2019: India’s Biggest Live Photo Contest Returns
A testament to the company’s commitment to enriching and encouraging talent, the ninth Canon PhotoMarathon for the very first time will culminate with an exclusive event in Kolkata, on February 9, 2019.
The world of photography has rarely witnessed the coming together of photographers in this nature. With an aim to cultivate, foster and recognise talent, and bring photographers across the country together, the Canon PhotoMarathon is a unique photography challenge organized across twelve Asian regions, including India. Much more than the average photography contest, it is one of the largest live photographic challenge of its kind. The previous edition was held in both Mumbai and Delhi, and attracted over 1800 individual participants. The ninth edition of the Canon PhotoMarathon is to be held, for the very first time, exclusively in Kolkata, India’s City of Joy and a haven for photographers, on February 9, 2019 at Science City Auditorium, Topsia. It promises to be a fun-filled all-day event, specially designed and organized by Canon. Registrations are currently open to all.
At the event, just before it begins, participants are provided with the day’s themes and challenges, for which they have to produce results within a certain time frame. In India, in recognition of the large number of school students who have taken up photography seriously as a hobby, Canon additionally decided to have a separate special category just for them, to nourish their photography skills. There are two contest themes announced for the general category participants and a single special theme for school students.
Unlike various other photography contests that require participants to simply submit pre-shot photographs, the Canon PhotoMarathon is a live experience, compelling participants to move out of their comfort zones, to search and ‘see’. Once the themes are announced, each photographer will then be required to compete by using their vision, creativity and skill to bring their interpretation of the themes to life.
The final submissions are then collected, and judged by a panel of eminent jurists. The judges for PhotoMarathon 2019 are Ravi Dhingra (well known lifestyle and commercial photographer), Rambabu Dhanishetty (a significant name in fashion and wedding photography), and Tejas Soni (acclaimed wildlife photographer).
Category and theme winners will all win very attractive prizes. The Grand Prize, however, is a very special prize—an experience of a lifetime. The selected Grand Prize winner wins an all-expense paid mentored photography trip to Japan, called the Canon PhotoMarathon Asia Championship.
Other than the prizes, The Canon PhotoMarathon includes a free ‘camera health check-up’, where Canon cameras can be thoroughly examined, and cleaned if necessary, by Canon’s own technical service professionals, available throughout the day.
Besides, in an endeavor to encourage photography and to offer further value to participants, Canon has also partnered with a number of companies. Among the brands from the previous edition are Adobe India, Make My Trip, Western Digital, JTB, Huion, and OLX. Apart from showcasing some of their products and special offers at the venue of the Canon PhotoMarathon, the brands also add their own attractive prizes for the winners.
